The Bagad
Musical traditional Breton ensemble composed of bombardes, snare drums, bagpipes and percussions, as well as clarinets which bring a unique musical tone.
A living
tradition
The bagad of Kevrenn Alré has carried on the Breton musical art for decades. Composed of bombarde, bagpipe, clarinet players, snare drum players and percussionists, our ensemble proudly represents the city of Auray and the Alré region. Each year, we take part in Brittany’s biggest championships and festivals, proudly representing our cultural heritage.
Five sections,
one harmony
The Bombarde
A double-reed instrument, the bombarde produces a powerful and distinctive sound. It often leads the melody of the Breton traditional tunes.
The Biniou Braz
The big Scottish bagpipe brings depth and potency to the ensemble. Its bass drone harmonises the bagad.
The Snare Drum
Originally Scottish, the snare drum ties the melody and the rhythm together, bringing a unique dynamic and energy to each performance.
The Percussion
Toms, bass drums, drumset or congas, the percussion instruments offer a wide range of sounds and bring various musical colours.
The Clarinet
A classical wind instrument, the clarinet has a warm and round sound, allowing multiple harmonisations.
The music and dance ensemble :
a combination of excellence
In the early 1980s, the decision to create a dance section within the Kevrenn Alré was going against the flow of the tendencies of that time, when many other ensembles in Brittany were splitting apart. The desire to maintain and strengthen the traditional link between music and dance, to offer a more diversified overview of our culture to the public, and the intense and rigorous work through which new standards are learned have allowed the music and dance ensemble to quickly become one of the most lively and renowned ambassadors of our culture, and an example of creativity in the traditional cultural world. Today, Kevrenn Alré music and dance ensemble embodies the inseparable bond between music and dance in the Breton tradition, making a significant contribution to the identity and cultural energy of the region, and playing a key role in Kevrenn Alré’s reputation in Brittany.
